PLIEGUE TUMBADO TREKKING

This circuit is the most advisable to supplement a 3-day visit: it provides the best panoramic view of the complete area, an ideal point for taking pictures.
The trail head is situated at the beginning of town, behind National Park Administration Office. After 1 hour walking, in a slight ascent through lovely forests full of beech: lengas and ñires, you reach an open area, called "Pampa de las Carretas" with a wide and beautiful view of Fitz Roy Mount, Torre and Huemul too.
Then the trail starts going into a deep forest, where you can probably identify many birds inhabit the area. Reaching the end of this forest, there is a barren landscape of mountain, and the path is diverted to Pliegue Tumbado viewpoint. In this section, marine fossils of about 100 million years old can be easily found.
At this viewpoint, we have a spectacular sight of almost the entire area: the Fitz Roy´s river canyon and Cerro Torre Glacier, Madre and Hija lakes, the Fitz Roy Valley and Cóndor Lake. From another angle, the eye can see Viedma Lake, Tunel River valley and part of Paso del Viento: the exit from the Continental Ice.
The way back is made over the same trail to get there.
