Argentina. Puerto iguazú
Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the impressive ruins of San Ignacio emerge in the heart of the tropical rainforest. Here, we encounter the remains of one of the 30 settlements developed between 1580 and 1767 by Jesuit priests of the Society of Jesus in Guaraní territory, where nearly 200 converted Guaraní lived together. This architectural complex illustrates a key period in the history of Argentina and Brazil, serving as a living testament to the Jesuits' evangelization efforts in South America. Located 230 km from Iguazu Falls and 60 km from Posadas (the capital of Misiones province), we will begin our tour with an early morning hotel pickup. We will arrive at the San Ignacio ruins at noon to start our guided tour, during which we will explain the original layout and the details of daily life in the Mission. Afterward, we will have free time for lunch (not included). Finally, we will set off back to Iguazu early in the afternoon, allowing us to admire the region's main crops, such as tea and yerba mate plantations.
